Creative Sensor, Varioptic to Co-Develop Liquid Lens in China
August 24, 2006
Taiwanese Creative Sensor recently announced that it has signed a NT$100 million (US$3.2 million; US$1 = NT$32.7) agreement with French Varioptic, under which Creative Sensor will leverage Varioptic's liquid lens technology to set up a liquid lens production line at its Wuxi plant in China. Creative Sensor stated that the plant will start mass production in late 2006, with an initial monthly capacity of 100 thousand units, and will gradually boost capacity in the beginning of 2007. The auto-focus liquid lens module features smaller size, lower power consumption, shorter response time, and lower costs. In addition to mobile phones, this module can also be used in other mobile devices, such as PDAs (Personal Digital Assistant), digital cameras, and medical or car recorders. Creative Sensor plans to unveil liquid lens for digital cameras in 2007.
